Good day Everyone,
Just a little side note, as we start to warm up from the recent cold weather events. Many palms and plants will be shedding their fronds and leaves. This is a natural process as they start the healing process.
General Pruning:
- Summary of Community Landscape Maintenance Plan for Winter Season (January–April)
- Over the next 3 months, coinciding with South Florida’s milder “winter” season, maintenance will focus primarily on light shaping and size control of ornamental plants in beds using pocket pruning techniques—selective hand-pruning with pruners to remove stray or overgrown branches while preserving the plant’s natural form. This targeted approach avoids heavy cuts, allowing plants to conserve energy during their semi-dormant period, promote healthier growth, and maximize early and abundant flowering displays already emerging across the community. The result will be a neat, natural appearance with enhanced bloom production from common landscape shrubs and perennials.
- By late March to April, a slightly more structured pruning discipline will be evaluated—likely less aggressive than last year’s cuts, as reduced renewal pruning will be needed to stimulate new growth while sustaining current vigor. Details will be shared as the timing approaches.
- During February and going into March we will be addressing the hedges in sections $7 -#10-#9
- This integrated strategy aligns with UF/IFAS recommendations for South Florida landscapes, prioritizing plant health, aesthetic appeal, and sustainable weed management during the dry-to-wet seasonal transition Over the next 3 to 4 months we will be mainly shaping to keep the body of the planet in the acceptable size frame.
Weed Control Turf / Beds:
- For weed control in beds, excellent progress has been made, with ongoing applications of pre-emergent herbicides timed for late winter/early spring to suppress the upcoming flush of summer annual weeds (e.g., crabgrass, spurge). In turf areas, treatments remain selective, targeting only spots where grass density is sufficient to withstand applications, focusing on persistent weeds while management reviews thresholds. Special emphasis continues on eliminating dollarweed (pennywort) outbreaks through collaboration with specialists (e.g., Miguel) and appropriate chemical controls, combined with cultural practices like improved drainage and reduced overwatering to discourage its moisture-loving habits. We have seen progress with the treatment of Dollarweed
Mowing:
- We are currently mowing every other week. We will remain weekly till we move into April.
IPM:
- We have been targeting the dollar weed and the broadleaf weeds. The next property review and treatment for fungus and weeds will be at the end of January. This is being completed this week and will be set again for the End of March
Communication:
- All approved Landscape renovations are complete.
- Zendesk: Is current.
Work to be Completed: (Weeks of February 16th thru week of February 23rd)
Mowing:
- Entire Glades property moved every other week till April.
Pruning:
- Sections: # 7 – section 6 and 5 will be this week
- Sections #5, 4, 3A will be the week of 2., and #7 will be completed in the week of 2.16.2026
- Sections #6 and#5 will be completed in the week of 2.23.2026
- We will have a supplemental team working on managing bed weed control and addressing any volunteers that may sprout up in the foundation hedges. cycling all the sections in the month of February.
Fertilization & IPM:
- We have been reviewing the flush of dollar weed and working with Management to reduce water and will treat week of 1.12.2026 with spot treatments
- Fertilized palms with 0-0-30 in January
- A Complete a coast to coast application in late January has been completed – next application will be at the end of March.
All approved landscape renovations are complete.
